History of All Electrolux Vacuum Cleaner Models

by Matt 22. June 2012 09:10

Take a walk down memory lane, back to the earliest days of the Electrolux Vacuum Family Tree. Though most of us didn't have the pleasure to witness these beautiful machines, the great-grandfathers of modern vacuuming, enter into the realm of the cleaning world for the first time, they made haste in showing the broom-and-dustpan fanatics that suction was the way of the future! When the Model V vacuum was introduced, Calvin Coolidge was the American President and the Roaring Twenties were in full swing! And in each American home, Electrolux vacuums were starting to appear through the front door as the newest addition to the nuclear family, the staple appliance to every wholesome household. As time went on and the vacuum evolved, the Electrolux name remained one of prestige and reliability.

Cleaning Your Window Air Conditioner

by Matt 22. June 2012 07:37

Preparing to use your air conditioner and filter for the first time this year requires periodic maintenance. Keep the AC in top condition and know that your AC can provide an environment for mold and mildew growth if no maintenance is performed.   Outside dirt and debris can accumulate inside the unit, which will affect the performance of your AC.  For maintenance tips and instructions refer to your owner’s manual.  Follow guidelines that the manufactures provides.  Preventive measures can cut down on allergies, energy,  repair costs, and help keep your AC running smoothly.

Some basic routine cleaning tips:

Turn off the electricity to the air conditioner

Remove AC from window

Have a stand or table to check the air conditioner, preferably in garage or outside area

Use a vacuum crevice tool and brush to clean the dirt and dust from internal components

Use compressed air to thoroughly clean

Replace or clean filters, some filters are washable with soap and water, others are disposable

Running an HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) Air Purifier in your home in front of your AC will minimize airborne mold and allergens, and ensure that the air you breathe is healthy.  The purpose of the HEPA air Purifier is to remove irritants such as mold, dust and bacteria that trigger allergies and eliminate volatile organic compounds that affect general health.  Although there is HEPA air conditioner for windows this may be the best alternative.

Cleaning Tips to Control Allergies

by Matt 14. June 2012 02:47

Pollen, dust mites, mold, and spores invade many homes making life difficult for people with allergies.  While no home can be completely allergen free, cleaning on a regular basis can reduce the number of allergens in your home.

Listed below are some cleaning tips to help alleviate your allergy symptoms and reduce allergens in your home:

Allergens and irritants rest on surfaces like rugs, furniture, and counter tops.  The best types of cleaning products for you to use are those that are non-toxic. Green cleaning products can do the job to reduce allergens.  Remember to read the labels.  Housekeeping itself can stir up the dust that causes allergic symptoms, so dust, sweep or vacuum outside entry areas to avoid tracking pollen and debris inside.

Allergist recommends using a Hepa Filter Vacuum cleaner that has a High Efficiency Filter because HEPA reduces airborne allergens by trapping dust mites and other small particles and won’t release them back into the air while you clean.  Keep the beater bar brush free of hair and other material. Have the vacuum serviced often to keep it running smoothly.

Install dehumidifiers in basements where moisture tends to collect.  A dehumidifier pulls the humidity out of the air, reducing dust mites, mold and mildew.  For air filtration; choose an air filter that contains small particles or a Hepa filter.  The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) recommends air filtration to control sources of allergy causing pollution.

Shut windows and run air conditioner when pollen count is high.

Just focus on the basics and don’t get overwhelmed. Fewer symptoms help vastly to improve your quality of life.

Maintaining Your Vacuum Cleaner

by Joe 11. May 2012 07:32

Regular maintenance of your vacuum cleaning can be extremely helpful in extending its useable life. There are many easy steps to take to maintain your vacuum at optimal performance, none of which involve bringing your machine to a repair man for expensive servicing. Whether you have a canister, upright or even a stick vacuum, taking care of your cleaner is the best way to avoid costly repairs in the future. Yearly maintenance of your vacuum does not have to be expensive or even difficult though, simply replacing the belt and filter in your machine can be extremely helpful in the long run.

Locating and replacing your vacuum cleaner belt:

The belt is located in various places on different vacuum cleaners. On a canister vacuum, the belt will be located in the power nozzle. To access the belt, you'll need to either unscrew the bottom or top of the base of the vacuum, depending on your machine. From there you will locate the belt and swap it out using leverage from the brushroll to pull the belt into place.  On an upright vacuum, the belt will be located at the base of the vacuum. Once again, you'll have to unscrew either the top or bottom of the base, depending on the make and model of your vacuum cleaner.

Locating and replacing the filter in your vacuum:

There are so many different makes and models of vacuum cleaners and the filter can be located in different places for each one. The filter in your vacuum cleaner can also have quite a few different looks and shapes. Most Eureka filters will be cylindrical with pleated filter media while Miele filters are usually rectangular with a plastic casing. To locate the filter in your vacuum, find where air is exhausted. For instance, an Electrolux Versatility's motor exhausts on the front of the vacuum, just above the base. Because of this, the HEPA filter is placed right in front of the motor exhaust to prevent particles from being released back into the air of your home.

In order to ensure that you replace your filter with the correct new filter, locate the model number before contacting a sales representative.

Finding the correct model number of your vacuum will ensure that you always buy the correct replacement parts which will eliminate the hassle and inconvenience of returns. Replacing belts and filters regularly will also ensure that your vacuum cleaner is always running at peak performance to ensure a clean and healthy home.

Tips for Green Cleaning

by Matt 8. May 2012 03:18

Green Seal

In Green maintenance the primary effort should be pollution prevention measures.  One of the goals of green cleaning is to protect the health of the building occupants, visitors and cleaning personnel .The term ‘green’ cleaning is the need to clean up the commonly used products that contain or leave environmental pollutants that may cause harm.  Green cleaning is a benefit to the environment and protects vulnerable populations including the elderly, infirm, and children.  People are protected from toxic chemicals, gases or vapors, that can attribute to depression, asthma, allergies and some cancers.  Going Green is about removing pollution not adding to it.  Selection of environmentally preferable products and equipment is essential.  Most green cleaners are as effective as traditional cleaners when used properly.  Look for a GreenSeal or Eco Logo product that adheres to strict standards.  Adding extra amounts of concentrated cleaning products does not make the work go better or faster.  Over use wastes products and raises the cost of chemicals.

Before starting to clean, read product and equipment labels and usage instructions.  Wear protective equipment which may include rubber type gloves, goggles, dust masks or ear plugs.  Special care is needed for highly concentrated cleaning products.  These products reduce actual cost compared to less concentrated alternatives.  Products should always be diluted accurately according to manufacturer’s directions.  Keep entry areas cleaned and vacuumed this will reduce potential bacterial and fungal growth.  Regularly sanitize or disinfect touch points on door handles and telephone receivers.

For commercial facilities and homes select appropriate highly efficiently green commercial vacuum cleaners certified by the Carpet and Rug Institute and ensure they stay in good working order by changing belts, bags and filters when needed. Make sure that the vacuum pick up is working properly and that holes or leaks in wands, hoses, or other attachments are not decreasing suction.  If necessary have the vacuum professionally serviced by an authorized repair center.  Empty and replace vacuum bags when half full and use and maintain the correct bags and filters.  Bagless vacuums also have filters that need cleaning or changing to maintain performance.  It is preferable to conduct major cleaning activities when occupancy is low.  Floor maintenancecan make an enormous impact on health and the environment. Carpet care for green cleaning is similar in most cases with those of a traditional program.  When carpets need to be cleaned use biodegradable solutions and shampoos, and increase ventilation, open windows and use fans to dry carpets quickly.

The Environmental Protection Agency, EPA, has found that using Green cleaners, companies can see a reduction in costs.  Green cleaning can lead to an improvement in health, climate, and the quality of life. With Green cleaning we can make a difference in the world.
