The United States Environmental Protection agency states that indoor air pollution is among the top five environmental health risks. The best way to address this risk is to control and eliminate the sources of pollutants and to ventilate a home with clean out door air. The ventilation method maybe limited however by weather conditions or undesirable levels of contaminants in outdoor air. According to the American College of Allergies 50% of all illness is caused by indoor air pollution.
Pollutants that can affect air quality in a home fall into the following categories: dust, smoke, animal dander, tobacco smoke, ragweed, particles generated from combustion appliances such as cooking stoves ;also particles associated with tiny organisms such as dust mites, molds, bacteria and viruses. Effective allergen control measures require washing sheets weekly, frequent vacuuming of carpets and furniture and dusting and cleaning of hard surfaces.
Air purifiers are designed to clean the air by filtering out harmful particles and air pollutants like allergens, mold, pet dander and dust. Air purifiers come in a variety of sizes and types. One type of air cleaning device that can remove particles from the air is High Efficiency Particulate Air [HEPA] filters. The Department of Energy has strict standards for HEPA filters. All HEPA Filters must be able to catch at least 95% of particles as small as 0.3 micrometers. Beware of HEPA type or HEPA like filters.
With quality air our family can breathe easier and live healthier.
